Mental Illness and Employment

On my way to work today,
driving to the grind,
wondering what I’ll find,
and what my boss will say,
her words not okay.

Depression and pain,
another lecture and no excuse.
I think of rhymes by Dr. Seuss,
Accused of being, “insane,”
forced to work down the Lane.

Another job and another lull.
Through these cracks I find despair.
A broken mind beyond repair.
Many tears and my senses dull.
Of my mind, I sit and mull.

Every time I stand back up.
I never give in and always fight.
My aim is true, I never lost sight.
perseverance I say, until I sit at the grandest sup,
and then I’ll drink from the silver cup.
